What to expect!

If you have thought about joining a choir but are not sure about Local Vocals, here’s what to expect.

Firstly, there is no need to have previous experience of singing in a choir although singing in the bath is perfectly acceptable. We warmly welcome new singers to any of our choir meetings for free the first time. There is no need to be able to read music.

Just pop in on one of the Mondays when we meet to see if it’s for you. Whilst Covid is still hanging around, if you feel at all unwell, have tested positive or a member of your household has tested positive, please do not come along.

As we learn new songs each term it may be easier to come along towards the start of a new term. The first time you turn up it’s free then we ask you to commit to the rest of the term. We review the membership before each term so termly costs may vary. Check out our Term Dates and Costs page for the latest on this. If you join, we pro-rata the termly charge.

It’s best to plan to arrive by 7.20pm (no earlier than 7.15pm please) so we can sign you in and answer any questions you may have. Remember to bring a bottle of water with you – it really helps! Each 90-minute session starts with a warm-up and hoorah, there is no audition. You can sing in whichever part you like, soprano, alto or baritone, and can move around until you feel comfortable.

To understand the type of songs we have been learning, go to our Repertoire section on the Home page. Each term our Musical Director takes suggestions from members so who knows what we will be singing next. We end at 9pm and always leave with big smiles.

To date we have only made a few public performances although pre-Covid we liked to end each term with a ‘friends and families evening’ so they could see what we had been learning and maybe hear how we were improving. If you have any questions, please get in touch through the Contact Us page.
